aluminum electrical wiring, copper pig tails?

i had to remove a couple of light fixtures for some drywall repair i was doing. the fixture was hooked up to a hot-neutral aluminum wiring AND a hot neutral copper wire. i think the other fixture had same wiring. have these fixtures been pig tailed? if not, what should it look like? thanx!

Answer:
I have to disagree (a little) with the previous comment about NEVER pigtailing aluminum, I will say that you need to be very careful, and use the correct splice technique. Try this web site:

You can't just use wire nuts for this!

I know some electrician training programs just say never do it, to avoid the pitfalls, it is possible to do, in most municipalities. The JHA (jurisdiction having authority) has the final say so in your area, (the "code" book is not a national standard!) Check with your local fire department or building department for a definitive what you can and cannot do in your area.
