Regarding electrical wiring to an outbuilding...If using conduit (underground) is UF wiring necessary?

Running wiring to an outbuilding appx 10 ft underground with continuous conduit...is using uf wiring necessary?

Answer:
No. It is not code to put that into conduit anyway. Use thhn (oops THWN, Sorry bout that Mr.Real Electrician) wiring with your conduit. Putting the UF or any Romex style wiring in conduit is only to be sheathed up to 6'. The reason for this is the heat disbursement of the wire, the sheathing and then the conduit gives it a double sheathing and have the possibility of melting wiring.
If you are using PVC conduit, you must be down 18" to the top of the pipe. If you are using galvanized Rigid conduit, you only need to be down 8" to the top of the pipe.
